ACTION ALERT: Licensure Bill Heads to the Senate!
What do you know about the Bill being introduced in Virginia re: updating the practice of massage therapy from Certification to Licensure? Why do we need more regulations? Click here to understand more about why this is a necessary and credibility building step for our profession.
This bill will be voted on Monday February 22.
Do you vote? Have you ever put a political bumper sticker (serious or whimsical) on your vehicle? Would you consider taking the time to make a phone call?
Thank you in advance for making a call on Monday morning between 8am-9am (please before noon) to your state Senator’s Capitol phone number to let them know that massage therapists support HB 562 and want licensure!
If I’m being honest, I didn’t know who my state Senator was. Thanks to Becky Bowers-Lanier, we can find out who we should call here. Type in your address and identify your STATE SENATOR. As well as we can find our Senator’s contact information here.
Here are the talking points to make it quick and easy:
- Tell the administrative assistant that you are a constituent and a massage therapist and that you want your senator to vote yes for HB 562.
- Tell them that licensure is the appropriate form of regulation for massage therapists
- That licensure will help safeguard the public from unregulated practice of massage therapists or others falsely claiming to be massage therapists
We are excited that our massage therapy licensure bill, HB 562 (sponsored by Delegate Robinson), has jumped over many hurdles:
It passed the House and the Senate Education and Health Committee.
It passed the House of Delegates with a vote of 93 to 3.
Our last hurdle, before the Governor’s desk to be signed into law is a YES from the state Senate.
Many thanks for your caring, concern and commitment to elevate the profession!
