Yurashi (Gentle Touch) Therapy, which was developed by Mr. Koji Matsunaga, is a very popular manipulation therapy in Japan. This method considers that the constriction of muscular tissue and pain are closely related.

It alleviates pain by releasing the tension of muscular tissue, which often causes drastic change of the level of pain and discomfort.
In this class, students will learn basic manipulation methods, fundamental forms of Yurashi Therapy, and mobilization methods for each body parts, etc. which will be greatly helpful to ease different kinds of pain in our body.

This 6-day Oncology Massage course combines aspects of 101 and 201 for a more comprehensive treatment of Oncology Massage and also includes an introduction to working with scar tissue.  This course includes 3 hands-on clinics.  The material is this course is a hybrid of review from 101 and 201, but also includes content about end of life care, hospital-based practice basics and practice building.

This course is an opportunity to learn not only the basics of oncology massage, but also some of the more specific details that will get you started if your path is leading you in the direction of working with clients affected by cancer.

It includes three supervised, hands-on clinics with actual clients (one specifically addressing scar tissue and two full-body, client-centered sessions).  Students will develop a working knowledge of the disease process of cancer as it relates to massage therapy as well as the ability to speak intelligently with colleagues, other medical professionals and clients about the benefits and safety of oncology massage.  The course includes daily opportunities to practice hands-on protocols and techniques which can be put into practice immediately.  Six days also affords the opportunity to address the topics of building an oncology massage practice and/or hospital program, including how to talk to doctors, how to approach medical offices and infusion centers and how to network within existing programs.  In addition to technical skills, students will learn about themselves and their beliefs and assumptions about disease, wellness and death and dying.  It might be the most fun you’ve ever had learning about cancer.

Promoting Health with Massage: A Seasonal Approach is a course designed to freshen your thinking about combining styles of massage with adjunct therapies for optimal effectiveness in keeping your clients healthy. Your instructor will combine western massage techniques with techniques rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The course will offer review of acupressure meridians, anatomical structures associated with the meridians, hands on work with fellow students both days of the workshop, and use of adjunct therapies as is appropriate for the season you are studying such as warm stones, cryotherapies, and use of essential oils. The classes are well paced, good natured and lively and will be accessible to the beginner and the seasoned professional. These courses stand alone from each other. You can take them in any order and there are no prerequisites.

SUMMER: PROMOTING HEALTH WITH MASSAGE: A SEASONAL APPROACH. In this course we will explore techniques to help the Heart, Small Intestines, and other organs associated with the season of summer according to TCM. We will utilize cooling therapies to counteract summer’s heat and the element of fire.

She instructs at a massage program in Roanoke part time, and travels around the mid-Atlantic and South teaching continuing education courses on the weekends. Beth’s courses are inclusive, supportive, good-natured, and packed with information. She loves massage therapy and she loves teaching.

These certification classes are unique in that Carmen Thompson offers perspectives on the varying treatment techniques and hand techniques taught by the different schools of thought in MLD. Ms Thomspon has studied and attended classes in the French Chikly techniques, as well as the Vodder and Földi methods.

The 5 day certification course is offered in sections and there is ample time between modules to practice techniques, to study and to come to the next module prepared with applicable questions.

Students will also study manual lymphatic drainage applications for many other indications other than just lymphedema. We study lymphatic organ drainage and full body MLD to stimulate the immune system and to bring relief to many suffering with auto-immune conditions such as lupus, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.


This course work is recognized as a MLD/CDP training program by both the National Lymphedema Network and the LANA organization.

Dr. James Mally is trained as a Naturopathic Doctor, and has been doing massage professionally in many different settings since 1975. He is a graduate of Bastyr University in Seattle, and the Lindsey Hopkins School, a 1000 hour massage training program.

Dr. Mally is able to integrate his thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the practice of massage. He has been teaching massage certification programs since 1979, and was the owner and director of Healing Arts Institute in Citrus Heights, California for 21 years.

He is currently engaged in private practice, DVD production, and teaching advanced classes in deep tissue massagesports massage, and anatomy in massage schools around the world.
